“Brian Wilson: Songwriter 1969-1982” is one of the best of this series. In this DVD, they have gathered acknowledged Wilson scholars, colleagues, friends and engineers to do an excellent job telling the Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys saga from a songwriting point of view.  The tragedy of Brian's fragile genius is examined, and the story is not a pretty one.  It's an age old tale of will the prodigal son ever return to his glory days of creativity.

It's depressing to see. Wilson is described as a "broken man." It's all here: the episodes with Dr. Eugene Landy, the record with the poet, the collaboration with David Sandler and even the abandoned country album. It’s a comprehensive and well-researched documentary on the one of the great American composers. It's clear that Wilson is a genius, albeit a troubled one, and that he paid a high price for blessing us with such incredible music. “Brian Wilson: Songwriter 1969-1982” is definitely worth watching.
